Where expenditure is incurred wholly and exclusively for business purposes, qualifying advertising, marketing and sponsorship costs can generally be deductible when calculating taxable business profits.

Example

A business does not normally pay Corporation Tax or Income Tax on its turnover. Tax is calculated on taxable profit after allowable business expenses. So where a Cornwall Trusted advertising or sponsorship cost qualifies as an allowable business expense, it can reduce the taxable profit on which tax is calculated.

Can generally be allowable business expenditure, subject to the usual rules.

Research and development tax relief

A separate specialist regime, available only where a qualifying science or technology project meets HMRC's criteria. Ordinary website or marketing work is not automatically research and development.

Why £39?

Cornwall Trusted's normal annual business membership is £99.

For our first 1,000 businesses, we are reducing that to £39 for the first year.

Why? Because the value of Cornwall Trusted increases as more genuine Cornwall businesses participate. Our immediate objective is to build a strong, useful network across towns and sectors, create more local referral opportunities and make it easier for people to discover and support Cornwall businesses.

This is an introductory founding business price designed to help create that momentum.

After the first year

Founding membership is £39 for the first year and runs for 12 months from the day you join. Standard annual membership is currently £99. Your first year does not renew automatically at the Founding price.

Where a membership renews, the renewal terms are shown clearly before checkout. The amount shown at checkout is the amount charged, with any VAT treatment shown according to the actual VAT status applying to the sale.

Why isn't Cornwall Trusted free?

Because Cornwall Trusted is intended to be a professionally operated business network rather than a mass scraped directory.

The annual business membership contributes towards checking and structuring submissions, creating and maintaining the platform, supporting the business database, administration, search and category infrastructure and future development.

It also creates a deliberate relationship between the participating business and Cornwall Trusted.

Is £39 per month?

No. £39 is the whole of your first year, which works out at around £3.25 a month equivalent.

Standard annual membership is currently £99 a year, around £8.25 a month equivalent.

What happens after the first year?

Founding membership is £39 for the first year.

Standard annual membership is currently £99. We do not imply that the second year stays at £39, and any renewal terms are shown clearly before checkout.

What makes the £595 Digital Trust package different?

It is an optional upgrade rather than a membership. It is a wider Digital Trust and Growth piece of work.

The business's digital footprint is reviewed across multiple areas and the Cornwall Trusted profile becomes one element of that wider work.

The normal package value is £1,250. The Founding 1,000 price is £595, less than half price.

Is there a guarantee on the full audit?

The guarantee applies to the audit fee only. Membership and any featured visibility are separate.

Does paying guarantee a high trust score?

No. You cannot buy trust.

Membership allows a business to participate in Cornwall Trusted. Trust assessment and paid visibility remain separate.

Do you guarantee sales or referrals?

No.

Cornwall Trusted creates visibility, discovery, profile infrastructure, network connections and referral opportunities. Actual commercial outcomes depend upon participation, customer demand, the business itself and wider market conditions.

Can small businesses join?

Absolutely.

Cornwall Trusted is designed particularly around Cornwall's independent, micro and owner managed businesses. All qualifying Cornwall businesses pay the same £39 Founding annual membership, whatever the sector.

What if a business needs help but cannot afford major improvements?

Where appropriate, Cornwall Trusted can identify and signpost relevant support, training, grants, finance or programmes.

We cannot promise that funding will be available. Eligibility always depends on the individual scheme and circumstances.
